Carol McAnally Since childhood, Carol McAnally has been fascinated with body movement. Carol's exploration of movement began in earnest in high school, performing with a local dance troupe in her senior year. This was a rich experience that inspired her to major in modern dance. Her love of movement never left her and she continued to study dance throughout her twenties with local area teachers including Jane Tannenbaum (who performed with Martha Graham) and Elizabeth Mandeville. After a successful career, first in the hotel industry and then in Information Technology, Carol left the corporate world in 1992 and started a psychological counseling practice which she continues today. In 1996 Carol discovered Pilates and saw the amazing potential of this work to help create core strength, joint stabilization and flexibility. After a year long training program with Barbara Huttner, a Pilates Master Teacher, she received her Pilates certification. During that time she also took Master classes from Ron Fletcher and Diane Severino. She has been teaching Pilates at her own facility since early 1997. In 2000 Carol saw an advertisement for Yamuna® Body Rolling , "a workout, a massage and a chiropractic session all in one!" She immediately recognized this as her next course of study, signed up for the certification trainings and became a Certified Body Rolling Instructor in November of 2000 and has been teaching since then. This system of body work produces several benefits that include: releasing and elongating muscles, improving posture, opening joints and breaking old patterns of tension and chronic pain. "This work is a joy to teach as it is so simple and yet so profound, it's good for everyone and can be done by anyone," says Carol. Since discovering Pilates, Carol has also been aware of the Gyrotonic Expansion System ® . In 2003 she embarked on her study of this comprehensive approach to developing a well conditioned body through a progression of flowing movements that enhance coordination, improve circulation, recondition the nervous system, increase flexibility and range of motion, and create a balanced support for the skeleton. She became a certified instructor in 2004 and continues to passionately teach and study this dynamic form of exercise. In 2003 Carol moved her studio from a small space in Capitol Hill to a private, in-home studio in Lakewood where she thoroughly enjoys teaching this entire body of work and learning from her clients as they move along paths to vibrant well-being. |
