e-rhythms: Yield

I have sat many times since my last e-rhythm, waiting for the words to come – the page remained blank. Oddly, this has not been disturbing to me as it has simply been part of my practice of yielding, in every moment, to what is present right now. The most precious part of this practice is the lack of judgment that comes with yielding; allowing life to be as it is, accepting people, situations and events as they are – without agenda and without embellishment. There is a great sense of ease and simplicity innate in this practice.

And, I’m beginning to suspect that some degree of tension is necessary to an overall sense of well-being; a pulsing of relaxation and tension held inside an ongoing, ever present sense of what is – here, now – that heightens the potential for effortless creativity, vitality and spontaneity.

Ceasing to over-effort and practice the dynamic art of being simple, going nowhere and doing nothing, has been a necessary and liberating process. And, there is more. An inquiry begins to present itself – how do I hold a state of restful awareness, take meaningful action and not collapse into old patterns of trying too hard or judging my efforts as lacking? As I ponder this, I am drawn to the Gyrokinesis teachings of resilience; to relax into the tension, to ebb and flow between expansion and contraction, to be solid and supple in the same moment, to couple strength with mobility and to respond fluidly to the ever shifting sands beneath my feet . . . to yield to what is without giving up on what can be.

“Effective action requires relaxation. But this relaxation should not be a collapse of either our body or our awareness. It is more like the vigilant relaxation of a cat. Vigilant relaxation makes it possible to manifest the appropriate degree of contraction – life-giving tension – in any given situation.”  Dennis Lewis, author and founder of  The Center for Harmonious Awakening
